The National Gay Basketball Association
In mormory of Adrian Edmonds
Written by NGBA
Adrian Edmonds 2006NEW YORK CITY — Adrian Edmonds, 42, passed peacefully the afternoon of Saturday June 12 surrounded by his close friends and family.

Born on Coney Island, he was a lifelong resident of the New York area except for some time residing in Spain while working in the fashion industry.
Adrian was an athlete and lived with basketball in his blood.  He learned the game on the same playgrounds of Coney Island as Stephon Marbury and other New York legends and in the late 80's and 90's was a recognizable figure at city parks and recreational facilities around the city.  Adrian was a trailblazer in bringing gay basketball to NY by playing on and organizing multiple teams in the tournaments that would form the foundation of the National Gay Basketball Association (NGBA) including winning the Boston Classic in 2001 with the US Renegades, the Chicago National Championship in 2004 with the NY Warriors and the Cal United team that won the National Championship in 2000, playing with future NGBA Hall of Famers Rhea Taylor and Martin Williams.

Additionally, Adrian represented New York internationally in four Gay Games from 1994 to 2006 including the 2002 United American Ballers team that won a bronze medal in Sydney and the 2006 NY Warriors team that won silver in Chicago; a team he also organized.
It was that same NY Warriors team that helped form the nucleus for the inaugural season of the New York City Gay Basketball League (NYCGBL) in 2007.  Adrian played for the Eagle in that first season and his team won the first league championship.
It is worth noting that Adrian was never the biggest, fastest or most talented player on the floor, but he has the biggest heart and epitomized what a team mate should be.  Adrian brought the intangible camaraderie and spirit that makes a team a team.
He will be dearly missed by friends, family, teammates and opponents.

GAY GAMES REGISTGRATION OPEN
Written by Gay Games Cologne

gg logo

Basketball is an American sport that has won over the world. We expect approximately 400 athletes in Cologne for this quick and tactical sport.

Given the position of the basket three metres in the air, it's not surprising that it helps to be tall and jump high. Men and women will each compete in four divisions.

Basketball games will take place in several gymnasiums in the City of Cologne. The finals will be at Sportpark Muengersdorf, the main sports hub for Gay Games VIII.

Be part of it! Register here
